For fun I thought I’d discuss some foods from Punjab mart on 33rd.
First let me state my opinion that India has the U.S. beat on awesomeness of junk foods. Sure, there may not be as huge of a variety (available here at least) such as late night buffalo chicken taco popper mocha doritos..
And secondly yes.. most of these things are made here in the U.S. but their inspiration came from somewhere.
But anyway this stuff is awesome and cheap and addictive.

These are basically Indian hot pockets. They come in many more traditional varieties. I had about half of one of these for lunch and had to save the other half for later. They’re killer. And at about a dollar each, they offer some savings over hot pockets.

I used to love munching on Chakali in high school. The DC Area had a lot more options for international groceries. For the past 10 years of Baltimore living I hadn’t had these until a few months ago when I asked the cashier at Punjab and he gladly pulled out a bag. They are hard and crunchy and spicy and delicious.

Pakota
I got one of these things to go with that masala pizza pocket today. To be honest after that combo meal I feel kind of ill, and I only had like 1/3rd of this ice cream soda before accidentally leaving it on the table. If the ingredient order is to be believed, this has more sugar than water. Is that even possible? I cut it with some sparkling water and mellowed out it’s sweetness. Nice rose flavor. If you like eating soap.. which I do.

rose lassi
The one I got was actually bottled/distributed by a company in Baltimore. To be enjoyed in small doses. It claims 2 servings but I prefer to keep it in the fridge/freezer and have a few sips every now and then. More delicious rose flavor. Which you love or hate. Plus YOGURT. As for the more popular mango variety, I could probably gulp one of those down quickly.

The sweet stuff can be a tad overwhelming but those snacks are not to be missed by lovers of junk food.

Any suggestions for snacks or drinks that I ought to try out?
